The US doesn't have a thriving aquaculture industry yet.
Right now, the United States is barely hanging on. We import more than 80% of our seafood — and almost none of the kelp, shellfish, and ocean greens that are quietly feeding the rest of the world.
California should be a leader. Instead, small farmers face years of overlapping permits, missing infrastructure, and a regulatory maze that makes it nearly impossible to start, let alone stay afloat.
We have to build this industry from the ground up — equipment, hatcheries, processing, distribution, end products, and the public awareness to support all of it. That's a lot of work. So we're doing it together.
